In Communications class, we will be focusing on reading and writing skills. Through the Guided Reading Program, students will be introduced to a skill or strategy, be given time to practice that skill individually and in groups, and then be asked to demonstrate their proficiency through various assessments. Collaborative stations will be established to practice theses skills and strategies. In addition, teachers will conduct individual and small group meetings to clarify and enhance comprehensions skills and fluency.
Our Writing program is based on the 6+1 Traits of Writing. Throughout the year, mini lessons and assignments will focus on these traits:
• Ideas
• Organization
• Sentence Fluency
• Voice
• Word Choice
• Conventions
• Presentation
